Fuse terminal blocks are a type of specialised component that integrate fuses into electrical circuits. IPD’s selection of Connectwell fuse terminal blocks allows incorporation directly into the wiring system, which adds a layer of overcurrent protection. These terminal blocks are perfect for applications where overcurrent protection is critical, such as systems that require high reliability.
Fuse terminal blocks can come in modular forms with stackable layers. Single-level fuse terminal blocks, as their name indicates, have only one layer. Similarly, double-level fuse terminal blocks have two layers, and so on.
Similar to standard terminal blocks, fuse terminal blocks can make wiring organisation safer and more manageable. The key difference is that fuse terminal blocks can support more functionalities thanks to the types of fuses which they can accommodate. They can also support LED indicators for quick fault detection.
Types of Fuse Terminal Blocks
Fuse terminal blocks often come open or enclosed. Enclosed fuse terminal blocks come with a protective casing that will be used to mount and protect them. Enclosed fuse holders can even include fuse carriers. On the other hand, open fuse holders will use accessories such as fuse clips, blocks, and even plug-on caps.
Under these categories, there are many types of fuse terminal blocks available.
DIN Rail Fuse Terminal Block
DIN Rail fuse terminal blocks are often made from plastic, which helps to insulate the electrical current running through the terminal. They come with a hinge which protects the fuse, and can be fitted with an LED-blown fuse indicator to let personnel know whether the fuse needs to be changed.
As its name indicates, this will be installed on a DIN rail mount, which secures the fuse and keeps it organised. The terminal block connectors will also help to maintain the current flow within the DIN rail mount terminal block and secure the wiring.
Screw Clamp Terminal Block
A screw clamp terminal block is a type of fuse terminal block that keeps its wires secured by a tightening screw, that which loosens or tightens the clamp. This helps secure multiple wires against the conductor, even securing often two conductors per clamp.
Fuse Modular Terminal Block
Modular fuse terminal blocks are composed of stackable and removable blocks with a fuse insertion carrier. As mentioned previously, they can come in multiple layers, such as single-level fuse terminal blocks, and double-level fuse terminal blocks. The modular nature of these fuse terminal blocks allows for them to be easily checked or removed for inspection without disrupting the circuit.
