Contactor & Solid State Relays (SSR)
A relay is a straightforward electromechanical switch. While normal switches are used to manually close or open a circuit, a relay is also a switch that connects or disconnects two circuits. Relays use an electrical signal to control an electromagnet, which in turn connects or disconnects another circuit, rather than a manual operation. Different types of relays exist based on their operating principles such as solid state, contactor, DC & DIN rail relays.
Electromechanical relays have moving parts and magnetic flux, whereas a Solid State Relay (SSR) has no moving parts. To perform the switching operation, a Solid State Relay is made up of semiconductor devices such as transistors, thyristors, SCRs, or TRIACS. Over electromechanical relays, Solid State Relays have numerous advantages.
The terminologies, poles and throws are applicable for the relay since it’s a switch. Based on the poles and throws, relays are classified into SPST (Single Pole Single Throw), SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw), DPST (Double Pole Single Throw), DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw). When an application needs to switch from high to low current or vice versa within the same circuit, this is one of the most common situations that necessitates the use of a relay.
Shop IPD’s Wide Range of Relays From Global Brands
IPD offers a wide range of relays from global pioneers in the industry namely ABB, ELKO, IDEC, and Panasonic. The product portfolio encompasses a large variety of product types, namely DIN contactors, monitoring relays, general purpose relays, force guided relays, latching relays, compact relays, slim relays, DIN rail relays and solid state relays (SSR) in Australia, with options between AC relays and DC relays.
ABB's hum-free installation contactor relay designs come in a variety of ratings. Installation contactor relays, which are widely used in buildings for switching and controlling lighting, heating, ventilation, motors, and pumps, take noise reduction to a new level. Installation contactors provide peace of mind in noise-sensitive applications thanks to an innovative AC/DC relay design that eliminates hum, a variety of tool-free accessories, and manual and automatic versions. The VS Series contactor relays from ELKO are designed for auxiliary and power switching of motors, machines, pumps or luminaires, specifically designed for switching of electric circuits, especially for resistive loads and three phase induction motors and also switching of higher loads, especially in other categories like AC-1. IPD offers IDEC and Panasonic’s widest selection of relays in the market which consist of relays which are also plug-in relays with electromechanical and solid state contactor operations, available in compact and application specific variations.
