The new way to deploy Hirschmann switches.
Hirschmann have long supported deployment of network switches over an Ethernet cable ‘out of the box’ with the original software package HiDiscovery first released in 2004 and eventually superseded by the HiView software package which was released in 2013.
The original software package HiDiscovery relies on Java, WinPCAP and local admin rights to allow you to send a discovery frame utilizing the HiDiscovery Protocol
HiView which was the replacement for HiDiscovery whilst written in Java did not require Java or WinPCAP to be installed locally and ran without admin rights in a portable fashion. It has the additional functionality of using its built-in Java stack to connect and manage Classic switches that relied upon Java for their Graphic User Interface. This software tool relied upon the updated HiDiscovery v2 Protocol.
The new software package Provize Explorer operates with the same HiDiscovery v2 Protocol but the software itself has been developed on same underlying software base as the Provize Planner tool using more modern libraries.
The software is available from the Belden Support portal for Hirschmann products found at: https://hirschmann-support.belden.com/en-US/downloads/provize
This download section contains 3 files –
- HAC Issue List.
-
- This contains a list of any known issues as well as which version they are fixed in.
- Provize Suite
- This software contains the installation files for Provize Explorer and Provize Planner, you can install one or the other or both with this package.
- Provize Classic WebView
- This software package is designed to assist with the access of the Java web interface on the older Classic Hirschmann switches which HiVIew may have been used by customers to resolve in the past.
The software package requires a license which is available at no charge, or with charge depending on the feature set required from the software package.
This is a change from the previous software but thankfully Belden has made the license process quick and easy and can be found at: https://www.belden.com/resources/provize-license
If you just want to use the software package to deploy switches, then you would select a Provize Explorer (free) license and you will be emailed the entitlement ID to install into the software package.
Note: We have some users report the software not asking them for a license and the resolution thus far has been to uninstall older versions of Provize Planner and then relaunch the software.
