The isolator is a mechanical switching device that is used to disconnect two different sections of the electrical circuit when required. There are many different types of Isolators used in industry today depending on the application required. Mainly they can be divided into two main categories according to the environment in which they are used: indoor and outdoor. Therefore, before using an Isolator or any device, it is important to know the environment in which it is to be used.
The IPW series of weatherproof isolator can be used indoors or outdoors due to its high IP rating. They are ideally suited for outdoor applications such as motor disconnectors, isolation of air conditioning units and AC isolators for a photovoltaic system. The most important thing when selecting weatherproof isolators is the IP rating or degree of protection.
IP Rating?
The IP rating of the IPW Weatherproof Isolator is IP66 NW with NW indicating no water ingress during tests. The first digit of this rating expresses the protection of the device against hazardous parts and solid objects such as electrical conductors, moving parts and the second digit expresses the protection of this device against harmful ingress of water. The IPW have been tested for vertical and horizontal mounting providing complete flexibility with installation.
First digit: Solid Particle protection:
Second digit: Liquid ingress protection:
Features:
There are four configurations (1P, 2P, 3P & 4P) in three current ratings 20A, 35A & 63A and are ideal for 240V single phase or three phase 415V AC operation. Four threaded gland entries top and bottom and cable connection capacity of 25mm provide ease of installation. High visibility ON/OFF labels, high strength locking screws and ample cable space makes the IPW weatherproof isolator the ideal choice.
The IPW Weatherproof Isolators are made of UV Resistant Polycarbonate providing good resistance to the effects of sun and rain and other environmental conditions The IPW series is tested to the requirements of AS3133 providing a “M” or motor rating allowing the direct control of motors. The IPW Weatherproof Isolators are also tested and in accordance with AS/NZS 3947.3.2001 for AC22B.
